Automatic submition is gradually becoming a thing of the past because search engines are doing everything they can to filter them out. I do not recommend automatic submission.

Search engines represent the majority of traffic generation to sites. However your ranking depends on how popular your site is. If your site isn't popular you will get little, to no hits from search engines.
